Why I Started Bohcove

Why I Started Bohcove

I went looking for a dress. I came home empty-handed, frustrated — and with an idea that I couldn't let go of.

It started the way so many things do: with a milestone moment and a deadline. My daughter had her Year 6 farewell coming up, and I wanted to find her something beautiful to wear.

Not over the top. Not too grown-up. Just something elegant, pretty and made for a girl her age — something she could feel genuinely excited about.

What followed was weeks of searching. Online, in stores, across every brand I could find in Melbourne. And the same problem kept showing up, over and over.

The Gap Nobody Was Talking About

The children's clothing felt too young. The adult fashion — even in the smallest sizes — wasn't cut for a tween body, and most of it was simply too mature, too revealing, or too trend-led to feel right for a 10, 11 or 12-year-old.

My daughter knew what she wanted. She wanted to feel pretty. She wanted to feel a little grown-up. She wanted to love what she was wearing — and she didn't want to turn up in the same dress as half her class.

What she didn't want was to look like she was wearing her mum's clothes. And she definitely didn't want anything that felt babyish or like she was still a little kid.

The gap between those two things — children's fashion and adult fashion — was obvious. What surprised me was that nobody had properly filled it.

"There was a whole world of girls who deserved better options. They just didn't exist yet."

More Than a Fashion Brand

I want to be honest about something, because it matters to how and why Bohcove was built.

My daughter has a disability. As she gets older, traditional employment pathways may not be straightforward for her. One of my deepest hopes in creating Bohcove is that it becomes something she can be part of — a business built with her future in mind, not just launched despite it.

That's not the reason people will buy from Bohcove. But it's part of the reason I built it with so much care. Every piece, every detail, every decision — it all matters more because of her.

What Bohcove Stands For

When I finally sat down to design the first Bohcove collection, I kept coming back to three things.

Age-Appropriate, Always

Every Bohcove piece is designed for the tween and teen stage of life — not adult fashion scaled down, and not children's fashion stretched up. Feminine, pretty and elevated — without being too grown-up, too revealing or too mature.

Made in Australia, Made Well

Bohcove pieces are designed and made in Australia, using natural, breathable fabrics. Cool cottons and soft weaves that feel beautiful in the Australian summer — and comfortable enough that she can actually enjoy wearing them, not just look good in photos.

Limited by Design

Our collections are small on purpose. I'd rather make fewer pieces beautifully than flood the market with more of the same. When a Bohcove girl walks into her Year 6 farewell, her school formal, or her birthday dinner — she won't be wearing what everyone else is wearing.

For the Girls in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane — and Everywhere

Since starting Bohcove, the response from mums across Australia has been overwhelming. From Melbourne to Sydney to Brisbane, the feedback is always the same: I've been looking for exactly this.

That means everything to me. Because it confirms what I felt in those weeks of searching — this gap was real, this need was real, and the girls who deserve better options are real too.

Bohcove is for them. For every tween girl who wants to feel pretty, confident and still like herself. And for every mum who just wants to find something beautiful she can feel good about saying yes to.

Thank you for being here at the beginning.
